History of Organic Farming in 30 seconds.
1920: Rudolph Steiner codifies the principles of Biodynamic Agriculture
1991: EU defines Organic Standards
2016: Two organic food lovers, ultimate-taste-researchers and eco-social-friendly Earth citizens sit down to define what food means for them: respect the environment, be fair to small producers, satisfy people’s taste buds with a new range of flavours they have never experienced before and contribute to consumers’ health. The outcome is Olivocracy, a brand of Italian single estate organic extra olive oil and the first in UK to offer biodynamic extra virgin olive oil. Italian. And single estate.
We are full of love! Here at Olivocracy it’s all about beautiful feelings.
Respectful cooperation with the Producers
Organic extra virgin olive oil is a key element of mediterranean cookery: for us, it is just not possible to enjoy a dish without “embracing” it with the best extra virgin on the market. We always look for selected organic shops and organic farmers’ markets to buy our food and our organic extra virgin olive oil.
So one day, we decided to go and visit the small producers of our beautiful country to see with our own eyes how they make the magic happen (link to “producers”). It was love at first sight! We decided that our mission was to revive a form of agriculture which is respectful to all the players: Mother Earth, the farmers and the consumers. We concluded that everybody should be able to enjoy such a premium product, which is the result of a virtuous cycle and represent an alternative to rapacious forms of production and trading.
We treat our producers fairly as it is thanks to their passion and knowledge that we are here delivering excellence to your table. We work directly with them and make sure that they receive a fair compensation for their passion, expertise and hard work.
Love for Mother Earth
When you grow up in a beautiful place, you learn to live in harmony with nature and are grateful for its generosity. There is no room for compromise when it comes to your food as it is such an important part of our family lives.
Sourcing the best ingredients is a vital part of the whole process of feeding your family. Whilst we treat ourselves with the best products, we would never do that at the expense of the wonderful environment that surrounds us. That is why, when we decided that the best Italian organic green gold had to be available in UK, we selected the producers following a simple criteria: zero compromise on the use of synthetic pesticides, love for the earth that so kindly provides us with everything we need, and utmost care in the production process to guarantee top quality. Take care of your body.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil is the cornerstone of the Mediterranean Diet and is considered one of the healthiest fats on earth due to its very high content of phenolic antioxidants (polyphenols). Polyphenols are biologically active and some of them can help fight off serious diseases. They are highly anti-inflammatory which easily translates into a great deal of help in preventing heart disease, cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and arthritis.
It is not surprising then to see that people who consume the most of it are significantly less likely to die from heart attacks and strokes.
Passion for good food.
This is definitely an important part of the motivation behind Olivocracy. “We are what we eat” (Ludwig Feuerbach). “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” (Hippocrates)
Italian mums are first of all the master chefs of the house and we grew up watching them making the dough for fresh pasta, moving swiftly between hobs and drizzling organic extra virgin olive oil on every dish (link to “recipes”). All the beautiful moments of our childhood and lives have been celebrated with a magnificent meal. Preparations usually starting days before, with careful planning, direct line between mums to share tasks, a subtle competition for the best supplier of delicious ingredients and finally, the big day! All the women are in the kitchen, moving around with a butterfly grace, in an apparently random dance, whose steps are clear only to them. An industrious atmosphere reigns in the warm, steamy room and they are utmostly committed to perfection. Kids run around and scream in excitement. Then when the clock says that the usual eating time has come but lunch is far from being ready, their patience is rewarded by being given a piece of something nice: a chunk of fresh, crusty bread or perhaps a juicy cherry tomato. With these memories in the heart, we can’t do nothing but share the love and passion for good food!
